Important enclosing frame: a half-size star of the Legion of Honour of the Restoration model, the July Monarchy centres, probably having belonged to Firmin Didot; three stars of knight of the Legion of Honour of the Second Empire model in silver, gold and enamel (one damaged); a large reduction of a Second Empire knight of the model known as "the Hundred Guards" in silver, the branches with nets, the gold centres in three parts, the imperial crown with beaded arches; a miniature of the Second Empire model in silver and enamel; a cross of a knight of the order of Saint-Grégoire le Grand as a civilian title in vermeil and enamel; a large portable gilt bronze medal of the Société nationale de l'encouragement au bien awarded to "Mme Paul Firmin-Didot 23 May 1880". With a handwritten label indicating approximately the recipients of these decorations "Mr Hyacinthe Firmin- Didot (2 Légion (sic))/Mr Paul Firmin-Didot (St Grégoire and Legion of Honour)/Mr Paul de Magnitot (2 Légion (sic))/(my mother's medal)". Unopened frame. The frame: 67 x 47 cm France, second half of the 19th century. TB and APC SOUVENIRS de la FAMILLE FIRMIN-DIDOT Firmin Didot (1764-1836), famous printer, publisher, type designer and French politician, Knight of the Legion of Honour on 17 November 1819 (file LH/773/51), his son Hyacinthe Firmin-Didot (1794-1849) continued his work with his brother Ambroise and developed the family business, being knighted in the Legion of Honour on 7 August 1858 (file LH/773/53). His son is Paul Firmin-Didot (1826-1905), Knight of the Legion of Honour on 8 August 1870 (file LH/773/55) who married in 1855 Marie-Pauline Le Rat de Magnitot (1834-1901), daughter of Paul Le Rat de Magnitot (1804-1875), member of the Court of Auditors, First Class Referendary Counsellor in 1861, Knight of the Legion of Honour on 12 August 1853 (file LH/1602/26).
