General de Lamoricière, an important red morocco binding richly decorated with friezes, scrolls and fillets, stamped on the first plate with the legend "Homage to the memory of General de la Moricière Rome, 1867", and on the second with the coat of arms of Pius IX. The interior is lined with white moiré silk. It contains a second red percaline binding edged with fillets and decorated with a photo of the General bearing the Commander's Cross of the Order of Leopold of Belgium, the plaque of the Legion of Honour and that of the Nichan al Iftikhar of Tunis, surrounded by the caption "Se et ante actos triumphos devotit - spes mea deus" (Se et ante actos triumphos devotit - spes mea deus). Without the tribute text, wears to the headdresses. 36.5 x 25 cm Italy, circa 1867. Louis Juchault de Lamoricière (1806-1865), French general and politician. He distinguished himself during the conquest of Algeria, notably under the orders of General Bugeaud against the Emir Abd-el-Kader, whose surrender he obtained in 1847. Minister of War in 1848, arrested after the coup d'état of 2 December 1851, he was then exiled. In 1860, he put his sword at the service of Pope Pius IX to organize the pontifical army and appealed to volunteers from the Catholic States, who would give birth to the Pontifical Zouaves. But, after the battle of Castelfidardo lost against the Piedmontese on September 18, 1860, he gave up and returned to France.
