Low "corner fire" chair in speckled maple with backrest with bars. Forefeet turned into balusters, hind feet into sabres. Stencil mark of "Lesage, rue de la Grange Batelière n°2 in Paris". Charles X period. Height: 80 cm - Width: 42 cm Depth: 53 cm Origin: Private mansion of Mrs Jeanne Loviton dit Jean Voilier (1903- 1996), muse of Paul Valéry, rue de l'Assomption in Paris 16th. Antoine-Nicolas Lesage (1784-1841) was one of the greatest Parisian merchants. He created a furniture and precious objects shop on Boulevard des Italiens, then moved to Rue Grange Batelière. It contained "everything that fashion can produce that is most graceful and sought-after".
