Patinated bronze plaque with finely chiselled... - Lot 147 - Beaussant Lefèvre & Associés
Patinated bronze plaque with finely chiselled and openwork decoration of flowers, foliage, mascaron and shell surrounding a monogram (MG?). Height: 26 cm Width: 21 cm This naturalistic floral decoration is characteristic of the fashion under the regency of Anne of Austria. It is inspired by the designs of Charles Errard, Jean Lepautre or Jean Marot. The same decoration can be found on the famous gold casket known as Anne of Austria (Louvre OA MS 159) or on the silver ewer basin kept in the treasury of Notre-Dame de Paris. It has no trace of fixation and seems never to have been gilded. Therefore it is probably a goldsmith's model.
