ILLUSTRATED EMBLEM BOOK. - MANUSCRIPT entitled "Lof der maeghdelycke Reynicheyt". 1667. In-folio, (33) ff. of which the last white, in Dutch, marbled brown basane, spine with nerves cloisonné and fleuronné, 8 white ff. added at the head by the binder and 10 at the end of the volume, without counting the flyleaves of binding, red edges, used binding with missing head and corners (18th century binding). BEAUTIFUL PAINTING MANUSCRIPT. It bears a dedication by the author to Sisters Elisabetha and Maria Jansens, dated Halle in the United Provinces on 26 September 1667. COLLECTION OF 30 EMBLEMS IN "ELOGE OF VIRGINAL PURITY". The body of the work, after a title (1 f.) and a preface in verse (1 f.), is made up of a series of leaves, each organised in a quadruple device: on the front, on a disc of paper applied to the centre of the page, an emblematic painting in medallion in an ornate, colourful frame, with a prose morality written above and a rhyming disc underneath; on the back, a long explanatory poem. A hand added later, on the white page opposite the title, a description of the manuscript in three lines, each forming a chronograph (the capital letters in red ink add up to produce the number 1667).
