Set consisting of one piece and 30 letters. 1787-1791. - MOULINIER (Jean-Charles). Piece signed in two places in his capacity as regissor of the colonial dwelling of Jean Mérot (Arcahaie, on the island of Saint-Domingue, December 31, 1787), with visa of the said Mérot (Nantes, November 6, 1789). In all, 8 pp. large in-folio on 2 bifeuillets linked by pink silk lakes. Accounts covering the period from September 11, 1787 to January 1, 1788: on the one hand the receipts obtained from the sale of raw sugar and syrup, and on the other hand the expenses incurred for the purchase of supplies, guard services, carpentry, transport, etc. HIGHLIGHTING TESTIMONY ON THE HARD CONDITION OF THE BLACK PEOPLE SUBJECTED TO THE SLAVING JOUG, and which makes it possible to give a name to several of them: "[On October 19, 1787], paid to the S. Bulance, jailer in P[or]t-au-Prince for the price of a maroon negro... the sum of thirty-two pounds five sols..." "No. ...of negroes and animals. On September 11, 1787, three hundred and thirty-seven negroes lived on the island... He has since died six and nai two, three hundred and thirty-one remain, know this: on the 21st died Mabia, Congo, aged 47, a cripple who did not appear at work... On the 22nd, Florantin, Créol, 2 1/2 years old, found sick and died of a scrofula vice... On November 16, Joseph d[i] t Couillandé, Créol, 22 years old, fell into disolution... On the 17th, François, Manding, 56 years old, crippled, didn't appear at work... On the 24th, Scipio, Mandingo, 57 years old, also crippled, who didn't appear at work...
