PLENCK (Joseph Jakob von)
Icones plantarum medicinalium secundum systema Linnæi digestarum, cum enumeratione virium et usus medici, chirurgici atque diætetici. Viennæ, apud Rudolphum Græffer et soc. 1788-1789. 2 volumes grand in-folio, (10)-62- (2) + 64 pp., the first volume bound in calf leatherette, spine with threaded nerves with red title and tomaison pieces, and the second volume bound in half-basane leatherette, spine with threaded nerves with red title and tomaison pieces; used bindings with lack of leather, the ff. A2 and B1 of vol. II bound after f. Q2; restored slots in some plates (bindings c. 1830). ORIGINAL EDITION. BEAUTIFUL ENGRAVED ILLUSTRATION ON COPPER ENGRAVED WITH COLORS BY HAND. Engraved title and 175 plates out of text (100 of which 4 folders for the first volume, 75 for the second). These are the first two "centuries", the second incomplete of 25 plates and the accompanying text sheets. The work, rarely encountered without gaps, appeared in issues over twenty-four years, from 1789 to 1812, from three successive Viennese publishers, first under the direction of Joseph Jakob von Plenck, until his death in 1807, then under that of Joseph Lorenz Kerndl. It should comprise a total of 7 complete centuries and one last unfinished one, i.e. an engraved title and 758 plates.
