Important heraldic medallion with the Colbert... - Lot 177 - Beaussant Lefèvre & Associés
Important heraldic medallion with the Colbert coat of arms in gilt bronze, chased and partially lacquered "Or, a wavy snake azure in pale, franc-quartier of the military barons", crowned with a countal crown, bearing a lion and a unicorn on foliage, girded with the order of St. Louis, the Legion of Honor, the order of the Two Sicilies and the decoration of the Lily. In a patinated bronze frame with a large suspension ring (small deformation). The medallion 13,4 cm, the frame 18,5 cm France, circa 1814-1830. This medallion probably represents the arms of General Louis Pierre Alphonse de Colbert Chabanais who, once the Bourbons were back on the throne in 1814, took some liberties with the heraldic rules, mixing the old and the new style. Cf. Archives nationales, Légion d'honneur, file LH/563/15. TTB
