Portrait of a woman Oil on canvas, lined. (Restorations). 55,5 x 46 cm Louis-Charles LIBAUDE (1869-1922) Louis-Charles Libaude studied in Paris at the Collège Sainte-Barbe where he became friends with Émile Bernard (nos. 132 and 133). Passionate about writing and art, he decides to launch with a group of friends including : Francis Jourdain, Louis Rouart, Léonard Sarluis (no. 160), Georges Bottini, Léon-Paul Fargue, Alfred Jarry ... to name but a few, the bulletin l'Art Littéraire of which he became editor-in-chief under the pseudonym of Louis Lormel. After studying law, he worked as an auctioneer from 1899 to 1910. Then, after resigning from the Compagnie des Commissaires-Priseurs, he took over Georges Thomas's gallery of paintings at 17, avenue Trudaine in 1911. He was Pablo Picasso's first buyer and organized Maurice Utrillo's first exhibition... His collection was rapidly enriched with works by the greatest painters of the time: Marie Laurencin, Raoul Dufy, Maurice de Vlaminck, Foujita, Odilon Redon (nos. 156 to 159), Olga Boznanska (nos. 139 to 141), etc...
