About this charcoal, the catalogue raisonné indicates: ... Now they are balloons that look like round moon-faced heads, unless the heads have been turned into balloons, which makes them grief-stricken, by some nasty bugger who now drags them around in bunches to show them off or sell them. Fogged with the colourful memory of the balloon sellers of our childhood, which almost gives it an old-fashioned charm, this black drawing is strangely and darkly picturesque.
